Ambedkar Scholarships Distributes 103 Scholarships or Rs.5,000 Each to Dalit and Scavenging Students on April 27, 2008 in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India.

Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India, April 24, 2008 – Ambedkar Scholarships, a division of US based Friend for Education International (FFEI) is set to distribute 103 scholarships of Rs.5,000 each to students from Dalit and scavenging communities from Andhra Pradesh, Tamilnadu, and Uttar Pradesh. These scholarships are sponsored by individuals from all over the globe.

Ambedkar Scholarships started with just two scholarships in 2003 to help bright but economically backward Dalit children from Government schools in Andhra Pradesh. This year 103 scholarships of Rs.5,000 will be distributed in a function at St Mary’s Centenary Junior College, St Francis Road, Behind Key’s High School, Near Sangeeth Theater, Secunderabad, AP on April 27, 2008 at 3.00p.m. In this function several other awards and individual aid will also be announced and delivered. Retired IAS officer and former Chief Secretary of Andhra Pradesh, Mr Kaki Madhava Rao will be the chief guest. The function will be attended by several dignitaries and IAS, IPS officers, NRIs, and activists from Tamilnadu and UP.

So far Ambedkar Scholarships helped 136 students in the past 4 years. Ambedkar Scholarships also involved in helping victims of caste atrocities and distribution of 1% interest microloans. Ambedkar Scholarships derive donors from all walks of life around the globe. It was started by Los Angeles based NRI and originally a native of Tenali, Mr Benjamin Paul Kaila.
